Outdoor Activities in Cedar Key

Cedar Key offers an impressive range of outdoor activities, including kayaking, fishing, hiking, wildlife viewing, and bird-watching across the coastal marshes. The landscape blends Gulf waters, tidal creeks, and nature trails that create a perfect setting for exploration.

Atsena Otie Key

Accessible by boat, kayak or paddle board and dolphin sight seeing along the way! Atsena Otie Key is an island a ½ mile offshore of Cedar Key.  The island includes a walking trail, swimming area and ruins of the Eberhard Faber mill. 

Cedar Key Railroad Trestle Nature Trail

Hiking trail – 0.2 miles from Old Florida Fish Camp - a scenic dirt/sand and grass walking trail with 1,700 feet of an old railroad line and offers beautiful views over the water.  The trail can also be accessed via Kayak from Old Florida Fish Camp, about a 5 minute paddle.

Cedar Key Scrub State Reserve

Hiking trail – trailhead located on SR 24,  4.2 miles east of Old Florida Fish Camp, the reserve is over 5,000 acres. 13 miles of multi-use trails, bike, hike or equestrian.  Good place for bird watching, home to the Florida Scrub-Jay, Scott’s Seaside Sparrow, Bald Eagle and Osprey.

Lil Shark Park

Beach area/waterfront park – features white sandy beach area, playground, picnic area.  Good place to watch the horseshoe crabs gathered on shore when in season.
