Assembling the Cedar Key Christmas Tree: A Community Tradition by the Sea
We had the privilege yesterday of helping assemble the Cedar Key Christmas tree, and it was one of those small-town moments that remind you why this place is so special. There’s something magical about building a holiday tradition with your own hands—especially when it all happens in the heart of the city park, just steps from the beach and the Gulf. Quite a few locals were on hand to make it all happen and this year the tree was up in record time.
Cedar Key really knows how to celebrate Christmas. The town has a lineup of festive events planned, and the energy is already building. From porch decorations to shop windows glowing with twinkle lights, everywhere you look you can feel that coastal holiday spirit setting in.
One of the highlights of the season is the annual Golf Cart Parade, a quirky Cedar Key tradition that brings out the creativity of locals. And of course, we’re all looking forward to the official tree lighting ceremony, happening this Friday, November 28th. The Golf Cart Parade starts at 6:00pm and ends at the park for the official tree lighting. Once that switch flips, the whole park transforms into a beautiful holiday scene—and with the water behind it at sunset, the tree shines like few others can.
If you’re in town or just looking for a reason to visit, Cedar Key at Christmastime is something you don’t want to miss. Whether you come for the tree lighting, the parade, the sunsets, or simply the warmth of this tight-knit community, there’s truly no better place to welcome the holiday season.
Here’s to a bright, joyful, Cedar Key Christmas!
